HIE Awareness Day is on 4 April and CL Medilaw will be supporting, Peeps HIE, the only dedicated UK Charity supporting those affected by Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE).
Peeps will be raising awareness of HIE on social media on 4 April with the hashtag #HeardofHIE and the team at CL Medilaw, and some of our clients, will be helping to spread the word.
What is HIE?
Hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) is where there is a restriction of oxygen and/or blood flow to the brain, which causes damage. It usually occurs before, during, or shortly after birth.
For children who have suffered HIE, the damage can be life changing. The level of injury depends on the individual HIE event and the treatment they receive thereafter.
For families, their child’s future can appear very daunting but overcoming these hurdles does not need to be done alone. Peeps HIE have a support network that connects parents to a “buddy” who has had similar experiences with their child to guide families through the unknown. They also have the contacts to offer free counselling and funding for equipment.
How Can I help?
You can join us and get involved on the 4 April 2023 with the Heard of HIE campaign by sharing your own experiences and how you have #HeardofHIE. If you are brave enough, you could tell your story through a short video clip, or simply, by sharing and liking our posts, it is enough to get the word out about HIE.
If your child has been diagnosed with HIE, and you would like to discuss what happened with one of our dedicated brain injury specialists, we are here to help and support you. Please contact us for a free review of your claim.
