Elan at Celebrity Tri

CL Medilaw teamed up with Amputation Foundation and the formidable Elan Williams at the Superhero Tri event at Dorney Lake on 17 August 2019 for an amazing day of success and achievement by all of those taking part.

On the day we were delighted to support our own Superheroes:-

Elan Williams

First to participate was Elan, who has cerebral palsy, and her sidekicks, Alex and Barry, in the Half Tri event. Elan had so much fun being pulled in the water, whilst Barry endured the cold temperatures of Dorney Lake completing a 400m swim, followed by Alex and Elan taking to their bikes to complete a 10km cycle. All this before then hopping onto her new racerunner and completing a 2.5km run. She made it look so easy!

One event was not enough for Elan who was chosen to take part in the celebrity tri with team captain, Paralympic swimmer, Liz Johnson. We don’t know where Elan found the energy, but she completed the run in less than 10 minutes with CL Medilaw’s Laura Bland running alongside her. After the event Elan said:

“What an amazing day. Thank you to everyone for making it such a good event. See you all at the same time next year!”

You can see Elan’s interview with Clare Balding and coverage of the event on channel 4 at 10.20am on 31 August 2019. Look out for “Superhero Series Tri Highlights”

Amputation Foundation

In the afternoon it was Amputation Foundation’s turn to compete in their challenge.

The team participated in the Sprint Team Tri with the swim being completed by Simon, a bilateral lower limb amputee. Simon completed the 150m swim in less than two minutes and swam so fast that he was first out the water ahead of all other competitors!

Next to step up was Pete, another lower limb amputee. Using David Weir’s old training chair, Pete completed the 3km in a speedy 11 minutes. After the race Pete Said:

“Wow, wow, wow. Amazing weekend with Amputation Foundation and CL Medilaw. The sun shone for the superhero tri. Loads of new friends made. Amazing to see everyone with disabilities absolutely smash it.”

Louise then had the task of completing the running/walking section and most importantly crossing over the finish line. With the assistance of her sidekick, Kate, they both power walked around the 1km course and finished in third place.

Kay Taylor, Partner from CL Medilaw added:

”We are proud to be corporate friends for the superhero’s series and to support Amputation Foundation and Elan in taking part and inspiring others to do the same whilst having fun and making new friends – the event was a huge success.”

Well done to everyone who took part, you are all true superheroes and we can’t wait for next year’s event!
