CL Medilaw’s Emma McCheyne and Hayley Woolf ran the London Marathon, helping to raise £15,000 for The Rainbow Centre for Conductive Education.

Hayley Woolf (Solicitor) and Emma McCheyne (Senior Associate) comments:

“It was such an amazing experience. It is still a bit surreal…it was so very hard at times (that heat!) but we smiled all the way around. Genuinely. We loved it and were so very proud to be running for The Rainbow Centre.

As we walked (hobbled) towards Waterloo, a lady saw our running vests and stopped to speak to us. She thanked us for running for the centre. She was a centre user as a family in the past, with her daughter who has cerebral palsy and who is now at university. It was so lovely to have that conversation with her and I know from other families how vital the Rainbow Centre’s work is. So, thank you to the centre for letting us run for you.”

Rainbow Centre Children Service Manager Comments

Rainbow Centre’s Eniko Kocsis had the following to say: “HUGE thank you for taking part in the London Marathon on behalf of The Rainbow Centre. Congratulations on such a huge achievement, we are incredibly proud. The funds raised will go such a long way in supporting our families. Asking the children or adults in the centre to complete tasks set within a session is like asking us to climb Kilimanjaro without any training, running the London Marathon on behalf of some of these children and adults is absolutely incredible and so inspirational. Thank you!”

The organisation is completely dependent on support. They receive no government funding and rely entirely on donations and support from individuals, businesses, foundations & organisations, and grants to support the many families who benefit from their services.

They offer:

  • Adult services
  • Children services
  • Conductive education

Adult Services

The Rainbow Centre helps individuals take back some control and increase their quality of life – you, not your condition, are in charge.

A neurological disorder affects automatic and voluntary movements and, as a result of this, people who have conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke or Head Injuries can find it difficult to maintain the abilities they had before.

Children Services

Children with Cerebral Palsy, neurological disorders, acquired head injuries and with developmental delay should have access to highly-trained and specialised professionals.

The Rainbow Centre offers a range of sessions with tailored support to help your child develop their mobility, motor, sensory, communication, emotional and self-help skills using a system called Conductive Education.

The organisation believes that, by nurturing your child to explore movement, have fun and succeed, they will learn skills which are meaningful in everyday life.

Conductive Education

The Rainbow Centre uses a system of learning called Conductive Education, which is a form of specialised neuro-rehabilitation for adults with neurological conditions and disabilities.

It is an educational approach which aims to help adults learn how to overcome problems of movement as a way of enabling them to live more independent and active lives.
