Today we join the H.I.E community and our close friends @Peeps-HIE on H.I.E Awareness Day in raising awareness and standing together in support.
The amazing work done by Peeps HIE
Hypoxic-Ischaemic Encephalopathy (or H.I.E for short) occurs when there is a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain. It can happen before, during, or shortly after delivery, but it can also happen in older children too. It can be one of the first signs that a baby has suffered a brain injury at birth, with symptoms appearing within the first few days of life. Every H.I.E journey is different, and the severity of an injury can vary significantly. Some children have cognitive and physical difficulties and are later diagnosed with cerebral palsy or other neurological conditions. An H.I.E event is not just life-changing for a baby, it also affects the whole family. It is often unexpected and traumatic, and family members may need support throughout the H.I.E journey.
Peeps HIE is the only UK charity dedicated to helping families affected by H.I.E. You can read more about the amazing work they do here: https://clmedilaw.co.uk/supporting-charities/peeps-hie-charity
