More than 100 women receive payouts following vaginal mesh scandal

Groundbreaking news of successful payouts from three major manufacturers to over one hundred women affected by complications following implantation of vaginal mesh implants signifies some justice having been obtained.

Despite this milestone, it is estimated that thousands of women are still unable to seek compensation for injuries arising from mesh, due to a strict, 10-year time limit, which applies to these claims. Many women continue to suffer life changing consequences such as pain during sex, loss of mobility, bladder and bowel issues and much more, all of which can severely impact mental wellbeing. Alongside the problems associated with the mesh itself, many women are faced with the very difficult decision as to whether to undergo mesh removal surgery as the potential complications from this are significant. Mesh has caused devastation for many women and most of these now have to deal with the consequences for the rest of their lifetime.

CL Medilaw partner and expert in women’s health claims, Elise Bevan, comments on the successful outcome from the campaign:

“I am so pleased with the positive outcome for the mesh survivors in their claims against the mesh manufacturers. This has been a long time coming. Whilst no amount of compensation can undo the harm that has been caused to these women, the result is some recognition for the life-changing consequences that mesh has caused to many and a certain degree of justice has been obtained. Well done to all the lawyers involved who worked hard to achieve this result and well done to the survivors who stuck with it, despite contending with their injuries at the same time.”

We understand the full extent of harm that can arise from negligent use of vaginal mesh and realise the long term affects this can have on women’s lives. Because of this, we are committed to fighting for compensation, raising the voices of women who deserve to be heard, and will review your case free of charge if you have been affected..
