About

Sharon is a Partner specialising in Court of Protection work. She advises individuals, trustees and Court-appointed deputies on managing the financial affairs and personal welfare needs of clients who have suffered catastrophic brain injuries as a result of medical negligence or serious injury and who, as a result, lack the mental capacity to make decisions for themselves.

Sharon provides guidance on the appropriate use and investment of compensation payments to ensure clients’ long-term needs are met. She also makes applications to the Court of Protection for permission to undertake specific actions, such as purchasing property or funding adaptations to improve rehabilitations, independence or quality of life.

Sharon has extensive experience supporting parents of children approaching adulthood, helping them to retain their legal right to be consulted on medical and social care decisions when their children turn 18. She acts for clients across the UK and has particular expertise in managing the financial and lifetime care needs of children who have suffered severe brain injuries.

Sharon combines legal expertise with a practical and client-focused approach, ensuring that families feel supported and confident while securing solutions that safeguard the wellbeing and long-term care of vulnerable clients.

Case Highlights

  • Securing Court of Protection approval to purchase a new property for a child with brain damage, where the existing home could not be adapted to meet their needs.
  • Assisting parents to remain involved in decision-making for their child after turning 18, despite the family GP believing the child has capacity to decide independently.
  • Supporting a family unfamiliar with managing large sums of money to make prudent investment decisions, ensuring compensation received would cover the child’s future care requirements.
  • Obtaining Court of Protection permission to use part of a compensation award to fund the installation of a hydrotherapy pool in a child’s family home, enhancing rehabilitation and personal comfort.
